About the Author

Robert Hollander taught Dante’s Divine Comedy to Princeton students for forty-two years, and is the author of a dozen books and more than seventy articles on Dante, Boccaccio, and other Italian authors. He is Professor in European Literature Emeritus at Princeton and the founding director of both the Dartmouth Dante Project and the Princeton Dante Project. He has received many awards, including the gold medal of the city of Florence and the gold florin of the Dante Society of America, in recognition of his work on Dante. Jean Hollander has taught literature and writing at Brooklyn College, Columbia University, Princeton University, and the College of New Jersey, where she was director of the Writers’ Conference for twenty-three years.

I have long had this book in paperback. Right now I have been engaging in an approximately three month long online discussion of Dante's Commedia. I had heard how good are the connections between footnotes and text on the Kindle and I was tired of carrying around the paperback version, so last night I decided for this last volume I would indulge in the Kindle version of Paradiso. This was despite the wonderful Dante Princeton site, which has the Hollander translation online [...] and despite already owning a hard copy. After one afternoon and evening, I am absolutely delighted with the investment. It is such a pleasure to work between the text and notes (regardless of occasional glitches in the touch technology). (I continue to follow the text in another translation as well.)If not for the cost, I'd purchase the other two volumes in their Kindle version as well. If the publisher/Amazon makes available the Lending Option so I can share with my family, I shall probably still do so when the year comes for a re-read (probably 2015).

Lots of translations out there- even on nook-- but small screen wasn't enjoyable-especially to try to high light a passage, The nook translation was very modern--maybe too much so. But this book has Italian and English cantos on opposite pages through out book-- there are pages before the canto to tell you what to expect and pages after cantos to discuss what was read-- If you are reading with a group this is so helpful.

As a student of Dante I've found his Paradiso both challenging and inspiring. His pilgrim/poet/politician worldview is stretched into cosmic engagement that brings me to tears when I think of this 14th century Catholic whose exploring the universe far beyond what his religious faith was able to teach him. The Hollander translation has a wealth of notes that are especially helpful to me as a beginner. I highly recommend this along with the Purgatorio and the Inferno.

I'm italian and I know well the original Dante: I find this edition of the Comedia the best available in English translation. Richly annotated. I make sure I have the three volumes in my library

The virtues of this as a work of scholarship have been rightly praised. I would just like to offer thanks to the publishers for the care they have taken in preparing the Kindle edition. The text is laid out beautifully and one can click from Italian to English and back again with great ease, and also to the footnotes. I wish all publishers took such care with their e-books.

This is the third part of the Divina Commedia.Robert Hollander, a Princeton professor (now retired), has devoted his career to the study and teaching of Dante. His translation into English does a fine and aestheticaly pleasing job of carrying the meaning of the Italian original into the English version. The two versions are printed on facing pages in this book. Dr. Hollander's wife, Jean, has assisted him in his work on all three parts of the translation of the Commedia.This is an excellent translation. The meaning comes through clearly. The Hollanders supply good and very thorough supporting notes throughout, canto by canto.

Deep and heavy reading with to much detail for a regular reader, but I'm struggling through and learning interesting things anyway.

Excellent translation and the best set of notes I've found. I love the way the notes consider multiple interpretations and perspectives. Very intelligent and thorough.

It is truly a case of the "beaten child becomes the beating parent syndrome." As such anotehr interetsing example of how women suffer for no good reason and that suffering is inflicted by women upon one another supposedly in the name of being "saved" by marriage and a husband. What a social commentary--however, this novel is easy to read, interesting, and a quick read! No preaching about social issues either.

This was a wonderful book with a happy ending. I gave it to a Chinese student who is learning English and she loved it. The book tells of a girl who defies the tradition of binding feet and what happens to her because of her defiance. Well written. Would be a good addition to a teacher's library.

Read this book as a kid and finally found it again. Purchased it on prime day and read it all in one sitting. It's quite interesting to read.

My 13-year old was assigned this for a summer reading book. Here are his comments:"The first two chapters featured a Chinese girl who kept saying she didn't want to bind her feet. At that point, I knew that she would eventually move to a country where foot binding was not done, and indeed, that's what the story was about. I did, however, learn something about Chinese foot-binding."

I enjoyed the book very much but was shocked how it ended so abruptly. I could have read on and on.

Wasn't sure exactly which mold book I wanted but this one is perfect. It explains how to make simple and more complex molds for my ceramics. I am not new to clay but I am new to molds and this works for my purposes.

With the high cost of molds -- this book is fantastic for making your own. It is thorough and contains explicit and easy to follow instructions. If you're looking for "everything you ever wanted to know about molds..." this is the book for you.

I was excited to see this book when it first came out. Read it the same day and had mixed thoughts. It is useful if you have never made a mold... but helpless if you have moderate to high experience. It is visually layed out better than anything else out there... and I keep it on the shelf for student reference. If you teach ceramics, keep it around. Robert Wallace is a longtime entrepreneur sought after for his expertise in engineering, telecommunications, systems development, business development, intrapreneurship, and entrepreneurship. He is the founder and chairman of a minority-owned IT consulting firm, and of a Web portal fostering the development of minority and women entrepreneurs.
